Starting Alchemy

Alchemy will require the completion of G9 to G12 in order to unlock all the skills, while others require skillbooks or quests to complete. Check the wiki for more info.

 

I highly recommend ranking Alchemy Mastery to B and going for Royal Alchemist as soon as possible. There’s no competition and it grants a powerful title and set of gears, plus you can help discover more cylinder upgrades. Also if you enjoy battle alchemy then buying the alchemy bag from Eabha would be a good idea.

 

Battle alchemy has one of the best growth rates when it comes to combat capability early on, but begins to lose out to the other three combat styles once they start stacking str/int/dex since alchemy lacks a damage stat. Also, alchemy-specific enchants are not generic and they tend to only boost one element at a time, unlike max damage enchants which will support both melee and range. However, the utility that alchemy provides in battle is unparalleled.

 

There are three main damage dealers that people pick, Water Cannon, Flame Burst, and Summon Golem.

 

Water Cannon works like firebolt, you can load up to 5 times and unleash a powerful attack, damage gets weaker the further you are from your opponent. Water Cannon is biased towards burst damage, and is generally better at clearing normal mobs. However, water users suffer from low crit and will need to boost their critical rating to reliably land critical hits with Water Cannon.

 

Flame Burst attacks in a cone shaped area in front of you, higher ranks increase the attack duration and number of hits. Flame Burst can easily hold down multiple mobs and tends to be able to kill bosses easier than Water Cannon. Flame Burst mains only need to get their critical rate up to 30%, since it ignores protection in critical hit calculation just like windmill.

 

Summon Golem can be extremely powerful in this generation, since it hasn’t been heavily nerfed, and golem windmill can easily destroy dungeon rooms. However, people that main golem early on will be weak themselves, and should be careful to guard their body while controlling the golem. It’s also entirely possible to only rank Summon Golem and ignore all other alchemy, they will still be quite strong regardless.

 

Cylinder upgrades: the upgrades on cylinders tend to be generic and cylinders of the same element share the same elemental upgrades as well. Note that a lot of them are still undiscovered, we need more Royal Alchemists to unlock all of them which will take a long time. Therefore not every upgrade is possible to perform yet.

Generic cylinder upgrades

These appear on all cylinders, however I only recommend them on the generic Cylinder. If you have stamina issues, use the 75 path, otherwise do the 100 path if you use Water Cannon. Flame Burst users probably won’t need to do the 100 path. Tower Cylinders only get the upgrades listed here.

Water/Tidal Wave

Water-type cylinders should always go for maximum water damage.

Fire/Volcano

Fire-type cylinders should always go for maximum fire damage.

Wind/Hurricane

Wind-type cylinders are good for Frozen Blast and Rain Casting. However the unique upgrades only boost freezing time.

Clay/Earthquake

Clay-type cylinders are usually used for summoning Golems, as well as occasionally making Barrier Spikes. The clay-exclusive path only boosts Barrier Spike HP, if you don’t use Barrier Spikes then you can use the stamina reduction path listed above. If you ever get an Earthquake Cylinder I recommend doing the Barrier Spikes path, however, since by that time stamina should never be an issue. The critical path should be useless.

Synthesis/Fragmentation

Having these skills ranked will make life skillers love you. Synthesis in particular can duplicate items by consuming Holy Water, an Arat Crystal, and one of the target items that you want duplicated. All ingots, golem crystals (except Snow and Magic), Life Drain, Barrier Spikes, Shock, and HP/MP/Stamina 50s can all be duplicated. A successful dupe will result in 10 of the item to come out (golem crystals only produce 5).
